Message from the Mayor of Mt Juliet

Welcome to the new and improved City of Mt. Juliet web site! You are one of nearly 160,000 visitors who have visited our homepage since it was unveiled last July. We trust you find the revised format easier to navigate and more informative in reading or researching about our great City.
A lot of good and important things happened in Mt. Juliet in 2008. To name just three, the I-40 ramps at Mt. Juliet Road were realigned and widened, the City successfully opened its first ever animal control shelter, and we gained the enormous talents and experience of several new department heads including Mr. Marlin Keel as Chief Engineer & Director of Public Works, Andy Garrett as Chief of Police, Mr. Jason Holleman as City Attorney, Mr. Travis Taylor as IT Director, and Mr. John Rossmaier as Mt. Juliet's Finance Officer.
Even more exciting items are already on the 2009 agenda. We hope to widen the northern portion of Mt. Juliet Road using funds from the proposed federal stimulus package. We are in the enviable position of having the engineering work completed, the right-of-way purchased, and being able to start within a matter of days after a contract is awarded. This is exactly the type of project the federal government is looking for to boost the economy, and Mt. Juliet is poised to take advantage of it due to our diligent work in 2008 to prepare for the road widening project. This is the only project in Wilson County recommended by the State for funding at this time. Secondly, we expect to make significant progress on the eastern connector road from I-40 to Hwy. 70, especially the portion having to do with Mt. Juliet High School. Mt. Juliet also looks forward to the opening of a Wal-Mart superstore and a Lowe's home improvement center in 2009. Not only will these stores add variety and convenience to the retail offerings in the City, but they will contribute significant sales tax dollars to our budget – something that's welcome at any time, but especially so during the economic turmoil facing the Country today.
If you're new to our City, we welcome you and invite you to become involved in civic activities; sports programs; our local theatre, choral, band, and arts groups; and the thriving business and religious communities in Mt. Juliet.
If you're thinking about relocating to Middle Tennessee, we invite you to come see Mt. Juliet and all it has to offer you and your family.
If your business is looking for a new home, we cordially ask that you consider Mt. Juliet. We're divided by I-40, and Hwy. 70; have rail service through our town, including the Music City Star commuter train with multiple trips daily to and from Nashville; enjoy a low cost of living and a City property tax rate of ZERO (which we've maintained since 2000); an ample supply of water and electricity; and are fifteen minutes from the Nashville airport. We have many new homes from which your employees may choose, and one of the top rated school systems in the State. Mt. Juliet was recently rated as the most business friendly city in Middle Tennessee, and the second most business friendly in the entire State. Add to that the small town charm we treasure so much and our location as the "City Between the Lakes," and few communities can compare to what Mt. Juliet has to offer your company. We would be glad to speak with you and assist in determining the best location for your business.
Mt. Juliet's animal control center is now open. If you'd like to volunteer to work with the animals and assist in placing them in new homes, we'd welcome your involvement. Sgt Keith Youmans, who can be reached through 754-2550, can provide you full details and register you for training.
The new teen center at Charlie Daniels Park is available for youth recreation during community center hours. The community center will be greatly expanded during 2009, which will allow us to offer more recreational and workout facilities. A skate park will be added in the coming months to provide outdoor recreation and a controlled environment for our local "boarders." Exercise classes have been added at the Community Center, and we invite you to call Tim Henson at 642-6130 to sign up today.
We've seen a lot of positive activity in recent years, but the best is yet to come for Mt. Juliet and her citizens!
Yours,
Mayor Linda Elam
Bold leadership, with big time results!
