Chief John A. (Andy) Garrett has recently retired with 25 years of outstanding service from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Chief Garrett started his career in law enforcement in 1972 with the Middle Tennessee State University Campus Police and then moved on to the City Of Lebanon Police Department receiving the rank of Corporal.
Chief Garrett then joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in 1977 in the Patrol division, rising through the ranks, holding various positions from Field Training Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and then his final position of Commander. As Commander of the Central Precinct beginning in 2001 he supervised over 100 professional and support personnel while receiving the award for Precinct of the Year in 2006.
Chief Garrett is a member of the Tennessee & International Association of Chiefs of Police with numerous awards and commendations.
Chief Garrett is the proud father of two sons. Currently his son Matt is attending the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy for Murfreesboro Police and J.O. is enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University.
